If you haven’t yet checked the weekend weather report for The Mt. Washington Valley, we’re here to let you know that it’s going to be a scorcher! Temps are expected to reach upwards of 95 degrees on Saturday and guess what? It’s going to be humid. While we all love the summer weather, hot days outside can and will cause dehydration and exhaustion if the proper precautions aren’t taken. Be prepared for a hot day with all of the essentials. Not sure where to start? Don’t worry… we have you covered.
So What To Do?
4 ways to beat the heat
Drink Plenty Of Water!
This one might seem obvious, but we all know it’s easy to forget the basics sometimes. Water keeps the body from overheating. When you exercise, your muscles generate heat. To keep from burning up, your body needs to get rid of that heat. The main way the body discards heat in warm weather is through sweat. As sweat evaporates, it cools the tissues beneath. Lots of sweating reduces the body’s water level, and this loss of fluid affects normal bodily functions. Drinking plenty of water is absolutely essential. Here in the grocer, we have a complete line of Hydroflasks, including the 64 oz Oasis. These handy bottles will be sure to keep your water cold and refreshing all day long.
Go Prepared!
Whether it’s a day spent on the river, a hiking excursion in the whites, or a trip to Storyland, make sure you are prepared. Snacks, ice cold beverages, and sun protection like sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, and SPF lip balm will ensure your outings are more enjoyable. New to the store is the Blueplanet sunglasses line; eco friendly sunglasses that use only environmentally sustainable products while protecting your peepers.
Come Inside!
So it’s one million degrees out and you’re literally melting into a puddle? Limit your time outside! Find some air conditioning. Our AC is cranking, and we are open for lunch until 3pm daily. Eating a diet rich in fresh fruits and veggies is a great way to combat dehydration and remain properly fueled for your next adventure. Another great option is dinner at Table + Tonic, starting at 5 PM nightly from Thursday to Monday.
Go For A Dip!
Thankfully, there are a ton of great swimming holes throughout town on the Saco River. If you’re not sure where to go, check out this helpful guide from Yelp.
From all of us at The Local Grocer, we wish you a happy weekend full of fun & sun!
